MoPH reports 124,327 Covid-19 recoveries

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) yesterday announced 213 new confirmed cases of coronavirus during the last 24 hours, of which 191 are from community cases and 22 from travellers returning from abroad.
The ministry said in a statement that 219 people had recovered from the virus during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in Qatar to 124,327.
The statement said measures to tackle Covid-19 in Qatar have succeeded in flattening the curve and limiting the spread of the virus and the number of new daily cases and hospital admissions is continuing to decline each week.
“Qatar’s proactive and extensive testing of suspected cases has enabled us to identify a high number of positive cases in the community,” it said.
Qatar has one of the lowest Covid-19 death rates in the world, the statement said, adding, it is a result of very high quality of care provided through the public healthcare sector, Qatar’s young population, proactive testing to identify cases early, expanding hospital capacity, especially intensive care, to ensure all patients receive the medical care they need and protecting the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
Even though the restrictions are being lifted, and the numbers are declining, this does not mean that the Covid-19 pandemic is over in Qatar, the ministry said.
Unless all precautionary measures are followed, the ministry said the country could experience a second wave and see the numbers increasing as there are already signs of this happening in other countries around the world.
It said people must avoid close contact with others, keep away from crowded places and confined closed spaces where other people congregate.
“Now more than ever, we must be careful and protect the most vulnerable,” it said.
The ministry said while the restrictions are gradually being lifted, it is important for everyone to play their role in controlling the virus by following precautionary measures.
