Qatar University (QU) recently honoured the student participants in the summer training programme that was organised by QU's Young Scientists Centre (QU-YSC) in June through visual communication technology under the precautionary measures due to coronavirus (COVID-19), entitled ‘The Environment of Smart Learning for Innovation’.
The ceremony, which was attended by a number of university officials, included a presentation of the training programme, its objectives, and achievements, as well as a discussion of its outputs and its impact on the student community, and its role in enriching the educational experience of participants from different specialties.
During her speech, Director of QU-YSC, Dr Noora al-Thani, praised QU students for their high competencies and abilities in learning and in fronting the challenges of distance learning, adding that the innovative research environment that the centre provided through the internship contributed in providing participants with many skills, such as scientific research skill, critical thinking, problem-solving and the ability to adapt to different approaches of distance learning.
She noted that the initiative to organise the summer training programme was a positive step that strengthened QU-YSC goals and ambitions, affirming that one of the most important tasks in any society is to educate and train youth, as it is "the key to success and progress in building strong society and economy based on knowledge, and this is what the centre pursues for the long term."
The training programme that continued for three weeks, with the participation of 17 students, included intensive workshops provided by professors and researchers from QU-YSC on the execution of scientific papers, research methodology, and methods for collecting and analysing data, applying what they have learned in executing scientific research under the supervision of specialists from QU-YSC and publishing it in the scientific journals afterward.
The training programme has provided QU students the opportunity in playing a leading role in supervising 66 students from primary, preparatory, and secondary schools, through digital platforms, who participated for their part, in an educational summer program organised by the centre.
