MoPH Sunday reports 271 new Covid-19 cases, 1 death and 289 recoveries

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Sunday announced 271 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, one death and 289 recoveries from the virus during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 193 and recoveries to 1,11,794 in Qatar.

The Ministry in its statement said the deceased patient was aged 74 years and was receiving the necessary medical care. ?All the new cases have been introduced to isolation and are receiving necessary healthcare according to their health status, the Ministry added.
?About the present status of  the Covid-19 spread in Qatar, the Ministry said the steps taken to tackle the pandemic in the country proved to be effective  as is evident from the consistent drop in the number of cases reported daily and the reduced number of hospital admissions. It is the proactive and extensive testing of suspected cases that has enabled Qatar to identify a high number of positive cases in the community, MoPH said.
The Ministry also pointed out that, Qatar has one of the lowest Covid-19 death rates in the world which is because of various factors like the high quality of care provided thorough the public healthcare sector, Qatar’s predominantly young population, proactive testing to identify cases early, expanded hospital capacity, especially the intensive care facilities and the steps taken to protect the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
MoPH also reminded that, even though the restrictions are being lifted, and numbers are on the decline, these do not mean that the Covid-19 pandemic is finished in Qatar. The fact that people are still being admitted to hospitals with moderate to severe Covid-19 symptoms should be kept in mind.
The Ministry warned that unless all precautionary measures are followed, Qatar may experience a second wave of the virus and see the numbers going up, if the situation in many countries across the world is any indication.
While the restrictions of Covid-19 are gradually being lifted in Qatar, it is important for everyone to play their role in controlling the virus by following the precautionary measures like adhering to physical distancing, avoiding close contact with others, not going to crowded places, not getting into confined closed spaces where other people congregate, wearing face masks, washing hands regularly and most importantly, protecting the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions, MoPH said.
The Ministry advised that those who spend time at home with elderly family members or those with chronic diseases, should wash their hands regularly, wear a mask and shoild maintain social and physical distancing.
MoPh also said that anyone suffering from Covid-19 symptoms should either contact 16000 helpline or go directly to one of the designated health centers to undergo the necessary checks: Muaither, Rawdat Al Khail, Umm Slal, or Al Gharafa Health Centers. This is important as the earlier the disease is detected the easier it will be to receive the right treatment and recover from it.
The Ministry also recommended visiting its website for regular updates and new information on Covid-19.
