Covid-19: Qatar Saturday reports 216 new cases, 201 recoveries

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in a statement Saturday announced 216 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 201 recoveries from the infection in Qatar during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recovered cases in Qatar to 1,07,578.
The Ministry said all the new cases have been introduced to isolation and are receiving necessary healthcare according to their health status.

About the current status of the spread of Covid-19 in Qatar, the Ministry said the measures to tackle the virus can be said to have succeeded as the number of new cases each day and the number of patients admitted to hospitals each week are declining steadily. It is the proactive and extensive testing of suspected cases that has enabled the country to identify the positive cases at the earliest, the Ministry said.
MoPH also pointed out that Qatar has one of the lowest Covid-19 death rates in the world, thanks to the high quality care provided thorough the public healthcare sector for Covid-19 patients, Qatar’s predominantly young population, proactive testing to identify cases early and the expanded hospital capacity, especially the intensive care facilities ensures all patients receive the medical care they need.
The Ministry also reminded the public that, even though the Covid-19 restrictions are being lifted and the number of positive cases are on the decline, these do not mean that the pandemic is finished in Qatar. Scores of people are still being admitted daily to the hospitals with moderate to severe Covid-19 symptoms.
Unless all precautionary measures are strictly followed, the country may experience a second wave of the virus and see a surge in numbers like what is already happening in some countries around the world, MoPH warned.
The Ministry said that during this period of gradual lifting of the restrictions, what the public should do is to play their role in controlling the virus by following precautionary measures like adhering to physical distancing, avoiding close contact with others, not going to crowded places and not getting confined in closed spaces where people congregate, wearing face mask, ans washing hands regularly.
Most importantly, it is vital that the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions are always protected, the Ministry reminded.
The Ministry also urged all who suffering from Covid-19 symptoms to contact 16000 helpline or go directly to one of the designated health centers - at Muaither, Rawdat Al Khail, Umm Slal, or at Al Gharafa- to undergo the necessary checks. This is important as the earlier the disease is detected the easier it will be to receive the right treatment and recover from it.
MoPH also advised all to visit this section of its website for regular updates and new information on the pandemic.
