The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Saturday announced 277 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, two deaths and 247 recoveries, bringing the total death toll to 192 and total recoveries so far to 1,11,505.


The Ministry said the deceased were aged 75 and 81 respectively and were receiving the necessary medical care. All new cases have been introduced to isolation and are receiving necessary healthcare according to their health status, MoPH added.
On the present status of Covid-19 spread in Qatar, the Ministry said the marked fall in the daily number of cases and the reduction in the number of hospital admissions indicate that Qatar has succeeded to tackle the pandemic in the country. It was the proactive and extensive testing of suspected cases that enabled the country to identify a high number of positive cases in the community, the statement by MoPH said.
The Ministry also pointed out that Qatar has one of the lowest Covid-19 death rates in the world and that is because of a number of factors like the very high quality of care provided to the patients, Qatar’s young population, proactive testing to identify cases early, the hiked capacity of hospitals, especially the intensive care facilities, the protection being given to the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
The Ministry nevertheless warned that, though the restrictions are being lifted in the country and the number of cases are declining, these do not mean that the pandemic is no more in Qatar. People are still being admitted to with moderate to severe Covid-19 symptoms, the Ministry reminded.
Unless all precautionary measures are followed, the country may experience a second wave of the virus and see the numbers increasing as it is happening in many countries around the world, MoPH cautioned.
The Ministry said that, as the restrictions of Covid-19 are gradually being lifted in Qatar, it is important for everyone to play their role in controlling the virus by following the precautionary measures such as adhering to physical distancing, avoiding close contact with others, not going to crowded places, not getting confined within closed spaces where other people congregate, wearing face masks, washing hands regularly and most importantly protecting the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions.
MoPH also advised that while spending time at home with elderly family members or those with chronic diseases, it should ensured that hands are regularly washed, masks said that people who are suffering from Covid-19 symptoms should either contact 16000 helpline or go directly to one of the designated health centers locate at: Muaither, Rawdat Al Khail, Umm Slal, or Al Gharafa Health.
This is important as the earlier the disease is detected the easier it will be to receive the right treatment and recover from it.
The Ministry also urged all to visit its website for regular updates and new information on Covid-19.
