The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Monday announced 215 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 223 recoveries during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recovered cases in Qatar to 1,08,002. The Ministry said all the new cases have been introduced to isolation and are receiving necessary healthcare according to their health status.

In its statement Monday, the Ministry said the steps taken to tackle the pandemic in the country have succeeded as it is evident from the steady reduction in the daily number of cases and the weekly number of new hospital admissions. It is the proactive and extensive testing of suspected cases that has enabled Qatar to promptly identify each day the positive cases in the community, MoPH added.
The Ministry also pointed that Qatar has one of the lowest Covid-19 death rates in the world and that is because of various factors like the very high quality of care provided thorough the public healthcare sector, the predominantly young population of Qatar, the proactive testing being done to identify the cases early, the increased size of hospital capacity, especially the intensive care facilities and the protection being given to the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
The Ministry also warned that even though the restrictions are being lifted and the number of positive cases are going down, these do not mean that the pandemic is no more in Qatar. People still are being admitted to hospitals with moderate to severe Covid-19 symptoms, MoPH reminded.
The country may experience a second wave of the virus spread and see the numbers going up, if all the precautionary measures are not followed, just as it is happening in many countries the world over, the Ministry cautioned.
Now more than ever, everyone must be careful and protect the most vulnerable, MoPH added.
The Ministry also said that, while the restrictions of Covid-19 are gradually being lifted in Qatar, it is important that everyone should play their role in controlling the virus by following precautionary measures like adhering to physical distancing, avoiding close contact with others, not going to crowded places, not getting confined within closed spaces where other people congregate, wearing face masks and washing hands regularly. Most importantly, it is vital that the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions are continued to be protected.
The Ministry also urged that people suffering from Covid-19 symptoms should either contact 16000 helpline or go directly to one of the designated health centers - those at Muaither, Rawdat Al Khail, Umm Slal, or Al Gharafa. This is important as the earlier the disease is detected the easier it will be to receive the right treatment and recover from it.
MoPH also recommended visiting its website for regular updates and new information on the pandemic.
