Longtime Qatar resident, Captain H.S. Virdi, receipient of “M. KANJANI - ICBF Award” passed away.


Captain H.S. Virdi passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday 24.7.20 morning at his home in Mumbai, after some old age health issues. He was 91 yrs old.

He was in Qatar from 1977 to 2008 with Mannai Group. Prior to that he served BARC until 1976 and Indian Airforce police until 1967.

He was Camp Commander for Mannai families accommodation and camp where over a 1000 workers and staff resided. Mannai camp had its own super market , mess-hall, play areas and gym . He was always helpful to everyone and ensured peaceful coexistence of people from all over India, Nepal, Srilanka , Pakistan and Philippine.

He used to take lot of initiatives in organising annual sports days including family games, tug-of-war and folk dance cultural events. He had also established a troupe of colourful which was always the high light of the show. Embassy, ICC and many community associations used to invite the troupe for their entertainment . More over it was his support which helped many community associations to organise cultural , sports events including venue for practice and tournaments of cricket , Volleyball and ladies Throwball at the Mannai Camp . He was one of the most popular Indians served in Doha with Mannai corporation with integrity and dedication .

No wonder ICBF bestowed him with the most prestigious “ “ M. KANJANI- ICBF Award “ as a recognition for his humanitarian service .

All his ex-colleagues and friends deeply condole his demise. He has left behind his wife, 2 sons and 2  daughters.
