Shura Council approves draft law for regulating press, publications as amended


The Shura Council held its regular weekly session on Monday, while social distancing, under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker of the Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud.

The Council discussed during the session the report of the Joint Committee formed by the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee and the Information and Cultural Affairs Committee on the draft law for regulating the press, publications, publishing, media activities and the arts.

The draft law has (74) articles distributed in (12) chapters. It includes provisions related to the regulation of the press, media, publishing houses, circulation and distribution of publications, cinemas and theatres, artistic production, private broadcasting stations, advertising and public relations activities and media services offices.

After extensive discussions, the Council recommended amending five articles in the aforementioned draft law and approve it as amended before referring its recommendations to the esteemed government. (QNA)
