Dr Abdullatif al-Khal, chair of the National Strategy Group on Covid-19 and head of the Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), on Thursday presented the results of a drive-through Covid-19 survey carried out by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
The survey included 1,308 male and female subjects with no symptoms and 11.9% of them - or 156 - tested positive in the survey, it was revealed at a press conference by Dr al-Khal, according to QNA.
He noted that this result gives an indication of the seriousness of the virus, adding that this means that out of every 100 people in the community, there are 12 cases who do not have any symptoms, QNA added.
The community survey was conducted at three health centres on May 6 and 7.
The survey included 1,035 male and 273 female participants. About 13% of the male participants tested positive, while for females the figure was 7.7%, according to information shared at the press conference.
The MoPH had operated drive-through swabbing hubs at the Al Thumama, Al Waab and Leabaib health centres in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Corporation, HMC Ambulance, HMC Laboratories and Qatar University.
The aim of the exercise was to conduct a survey and gain more insight into community transmission of the novel coronavirus and asymptomatic cases, which will in turn inform policy decisions.
A total of 567 people were tested at Al Thumama, 441 at Al Waab and 300 at Leabaib.
