Three new cases of coronavirus in Qatar among expats; Schools, universities shut from tomorrow


The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Monday reported three new confirmed cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) in Qatar.

All the three cases are among expatriates, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in the country to 18 so far.

About 300 close contacts have also been checked. They were identified from the Central market and a Hypermarket. The Central market and the Hypermarket are temporarily closed and sanitised.

So far 3500 people have been tested. The number of cases is 18 as of Monday.
There are no deaths on COVID-19 in Qatar and do not believe in any such rumours, MoPH added.The Government Communications Office announced, in a statement today, the suspension of classes in public and private schools and universities for all students in the State of Qatar as of Tuesday, March 10, 2020, until further notice.

The suspension is within the efforts and measures taken by the State of Qatar to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and to ensure the safety of students in all public and private educational institutions.

The Ministry of Public Health urges all citizens and residents to avoid gatherings in public places, avoid all but essential travel at this time, and apply preventive measures to prevent infection as recommended by the Ministry on its website and its accounts on social media.

The Ministry has also set up a dedicated, round-the-clock call centre to answer all questions and inquiries related to coronavirus (COVID-19). The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free. (QNA)
