Ministry of Commerce obliges delivery companies to take precautions

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has compelled companies processing delivery orders to comply with a set of precautionary measures to preserve the safety of citizens and residents.

The ministry laid down the conditions through a notification posted on social media on Tuesday.

The notification states that the body temperature of delivery personnel has to be checked twice daily.

Delivery personnel have to be committed to the implementation of health and safety conditions, particularly in terms of wearing masks and medical gloves.

The full name of the delivery employee has to be written on the order, the ministry has said, adding that the vehicles used for delivery transportation need to be sterilised.

Also, orders have to be placed inside disposable plastic bags before delivering them to consumers, the notification adds.

With dine-in not allowed at restaurants and cafes, many people are currently depending on home delivery of food. Also, many are avoiding going to supermarkets in the current scenario and hence relying on online orders and delivery of groceries.

The MoCI has been taking a slew of measures in view of the Covid-19 outbreak to safeguard public health as well as protect consumer rights. These include fixing the maximum selling prices of sanitisers, facemasks and various food products.
