Tanveer leads Qatar to easy victory over Uganda

All-rounder Mohamed Tanveer scored his career’s fifth half-century and inspire Qatar to an emphatic 40-run win over Uganda in the first Twenty20 International at the Asian Town Stadium on Wednesday night.
The 39-year-old Tanveer smashed half a dozen sixes and a four in his unbeaten 57 to lead Qatar to a massive total of 201 for two. He later removed top-scorer Frank Akankwasa, who made his international debut, to set up a big victory and put the home team 1-0 ahead in the three-match series.
In October last year, Tanveer had also scored 57 not out to steer Qatar to a 3-0 series victory against Jersey.
Batting first after being asked to set the target, Qatar made a brisk start through Zaheeruddeen Ibrahim and Kamran Khan. The pair reeled off 101 runs in just 10.1 overs. Ibrahim was the first to go when he got run out for 50, which included a six and seven boundaries in 34 balls.
Five runs later, Khan also departed, falling leg before to Frank Nsubuga. Khan took just 33 balls to make 43 with three fours and a six. Tanveer and debutant Imal Liyanage then mustered 95 runs for the unbroken third wicket to help Qatar post a challenging total.
Tanveer faced just 34 balls and equaled his career-best knock, while Liyanage hit 37 not out. In his 22-ball innings, he cracked two sixes and three fours.
Uganda made a poor start, losing their top three batsmen for just 25 runs. They lost their fourth player at 57 in 10.1 overs and never in a hunt to chase down Qatar’s total. Teenager Frank Akankwasa and Dusededit Muhumuza dug in and played some electrifying knocks to revive the Uganda challenge. However, Malik separated the duo when he bowled Muhumuza for 42 in 33 balls. He clobbered two sixes and three fours in a 33-ball 42, helping Akankwasa add 91 runs for the sixth wicket. Tanveer bowled very impressively and got the 17-year-old Akankwasa stumped for his figures of one for 12 in two overs. Akankwasa hammered six sixes and five boundaries in his 66-run charge but his 33-ball knock came a bit too late.
