‘Qatar and Brazil have many economic co-operation opportunities’


Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has underlined that the Qatari and Brazilian economies have many possibilities and opportunities for co-operation in different economic fields.
In a speech delivered during a high-level roundtable on “the perspective of macroeconomic scenarios and the Brazilian business environment” yesterday, the president said his country provides many investment opportunities in various fields. He pledged to work to achieve security and ensure the protection of the interests of foreign investors.
During the meeting, which was attended by officials from all the parties concerned with investment in Qatar, the Brazilian president stressed the readiness of all relevant entities in Brazil to meet the wishes and needs of Qatari investors. He said overcoming any obstacles that may arise in this context is a personal responsibility in order to encourage Qatari investments in Brazil and meet all needs and overcome all obstacles.
Bolsonaro pointed out that Qatari investors are aware of the magnitude of the changes and reforms that Brazil is witnessing since he assumed office. He also stressed that Brazil is a safe country for investment, which is reflected in economic indicators, especially the business environment, which is improving significantly.
He said what Brazil has achieved in the past period has brought back the attention of the world, explaining that officials around the world are now looking at his country with a new confidence and willingness to sign more agreements in the common interests of various nations.
Bolsonaro also noted the great preparations being made by Qatar to host the FIFA World Cup, revealing that he would attend the World Cup in 2022 to demonstrate the friendship between the Brazilian and Qatari nations. He expressed hope that his visit would result in more agreements and investments between Qatar and Brazil.
Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ernesto Araujo underscored that the partnership between Qatar and Brazil is gaining importance from the great potential of the two countries. He praised the development and successes of Qatar at all levels, and expressed keenness to build a Brazilian-Qatari partnership and benefit from the accumulated Qatari experience.
The foreign minister said Brazil has abandoned bureaucratic economic plans, and now has a free and competitive economy and is undergoing many reforms and transformations in order to attract foreign investment to the large Brazilian market, especially in the infrastructure sector.
Araujo stressed that Brazil has implemented fundamental reforms that have enhanced its investment competitiveness, and will achieve positive results in supporting the Brazilian economy and its objectives. He added that these reforms contribute to moving forward to achieve the targeted development of the country, emerge from a narrow perspective to establish strategic partnerships with all countries in the world, and work to exchange experiences in various sectors of business.
The foreign minister also said Brazil, which represents the ideal gateway to the entire continent of South America, seeks to increase the role played by the private sector in its economy, attracting investors from all countries in the world and benefit from the experience of Qatar in terms of the diversity of investments. He called on the Qatari side to identify the various aspects of investment in Brazil.
Further, Araujo called on Qatari investors to invest in different sectors, including education, technology, commodities and products, as well as long-term defence co-operation.
He added that the doors of investment in the Brazilian market are open to Qatari investors, especially with the new Brazilian government in place, which will spare no effort to attract Qatari investments to the Brazilian market and establish special partnerships with the Qatari side.
